1. Fund-raising in the Aberystwyth area

euenctid Cymru i Lourdes

Bob blwyddyn, mae nifer o bobl ifanc rhwng 16 a 25 oed yn mynd i Lourdes gyda mudiad "Ieuenctid Cymru i Lourdes" (Welsh Youth to Lourdes) i weithio'n wirfoddol i helpu cleifion a phobl anabl sydd ar bererindod yno o Gymru.

Mae'r mwyafrif yn gatholigion - ac mae 'r mudiad yn gweithredu oddi fewn i'r Eglwys Gatholig ac yn croesawu hefyd pobl ifanc nad ydynt yn gatholigion.

Ym mis Gorffennaf 2007, aeth grŵp o bedwar o wirfoddolwyr o blwyf Aberystwyth i Lourdes i weithio yno am wythnos fel rhan o garfan Ieuenctid Cymru i Lourdes. Nhw oedd y grŵp cyntaf o Ogledd Ceredigion i wneud hynny.

Gweithion nhw yn ddyfal drwy'r flwyddyn i godi arian cyn mynd er mwyn cwrdd â'u costau i gyd.

Mae'r nifer o bobl sydd eisiau mynd o ardal Aberystwyth yn 2008 wedi cynyddu - ac mae'r grŵp wrthi yn
trefnu gweithgareddau i godi arian unwaith eto.

Bydd pob cyfraniad yn helpu talu eu costau, ac mae'r grŵp yn ddiolchgar iawn am bob cefnogaeth.

Mae Clwb 100 hefyd wedi cael ei sefydlu er mwyn codi arian tuag at eu costau (aelodaeth yn £10 - cewch ofyn am fanylion).

Mae Noson Gerdd yn cael ei threfnu ar Nos Lun, Chwefror 4, 2008 yn
Y Morlan, Aberystwyth. Dewch i fwynhau noson o adloniant gan nifer o gerddorion a chantorion dawnus - o Gymru ac o bedwar ban byd - sydd yn byw yn lleol. Manylion ar gael yn fuan yn y Flwyddyn Newydd.

Welsh Youth To Lourdes

Every year, a number of young people between 16 and 25 years of age go to Lourdes with the Welsh Youth To Lourdes movement in order to work voluntarily to help sick and disabled people who are on pilgrimage there from Wales.

The majority are catholics - and the movement operates within the Catholic Church and also welcomes young people who are not catholics.

In July 2007, a group of four volunteers from the parish of Aberystwyth went to Lourdes with the Welsh Youth To Lourdes contingent to work there for a week. They were the first group from North Ceredigion to do so.

They worked diligently throughout the year to raise funds to meet all their costs.

The number of young people who wish to go from the Aberystwyth area in 2008 has increased - and the group is once again active in organizing fund-raising events.

All contributions will help to pay their costs, and the group is very grateful for all support.

A 100 Club has also been set up in order raise money towards their costs (membership £10 - please ask for details).

A Music Evening (see photographs below) was arranged for Monday evening, February 4, 2008 in Y Morlan, Aberystwyth, an evening of entertainment by a number of talented musicians and singers - from Wales and worldwide - who live locally.

2. Pererindod Cymru i Lourdes 2008
blwyddyn y jiwbili!

“Mwynheais yn Lourdes - er bod y gwaith weithiau yn anodd, roedd hefyd yn gyfle i gymdeithasu a gwneud ffrindiau arbennig. Byddwn yn ei argymell fel profiad y dylai pawb ei gael.” Gwenllian Daniel.

Dyma’r ail flwyddyn i mi a Gwenllian ymuno â phererindod genedlaethol Cymru i Lourdes. Unwaith eto, roeddem yn ran o’r garfan ieuenctid a’n swyddogaeth oedd rhoi gofal ychwanegol i’r cleifion oedd yn teithio gyda ni. Y rhan fwyaf o’r gwaith hwn oedd siarad â hwy. Mae llawer ohonynt yn byw ar eu pen eu hunain, wedi colli partneriaid, ond yn gweld un person sydd yn dod fel rhan o’i swydd i roi bwyd iddynt, eu rhoi yn y gwely neu beth bynnag, neu yn byw mewn cartref nyrsio ymhell oddi wrth eu teuluoedd. Roedd sgwrsio â phobol ifanc yn nofelti iddynt, yn yr un modd â chael ymweld â rhywle gwahanol a gwneud gwahanol bethau bob dydd, mewn cwmni cyfnewidiol.

Dyna’r rhan hawdd, pleserus o’r gwaith. Doedd hi ddim bob amser felly! Roedd ein hamserlen yn llawn – offeren bob dydd, y cleifion angen cael eu deffro, codi, golchi, gwisgo a bwydo mewn pryd, yna’u tynnu yno mewn cadeiriau glas sy’n nodweddiadol o Lourdes. Mae edrych ymlaen at gael cymdeithasu gyda’r nos ac yna mynd i’r grotto yn hwyr, i gael gweddïo ar y cyd ac yna’n dawel, cynnau cannwyll dros ein hanwyliaid a theimlo presenoldeb Duw, yn rywbeth i edrych ymlaen ato ar ddiwedd y dydd.

Byddwn yn argymell y profiad i unrhyw un. Diolch yn fawr i bawb am eu cefnogaeth ohonom. Rwy’n siŵr y byddai Gwenllian, Rhianwen a Märy, a aeth leni, a Huw a James a aeth llynedd, yn cytuno i’r profiad gyfoethogi ein bywydau. Rydym yn edrych ymlaen yn barod at y tro nesaf ac yn gobeithio y cawn ni fwy o bererinion newydd!

Welsh National Pilgrimage to Lourdes 2008
the jubilee year!

"I enjoyed at Lourdes – even though the work was sometimes hard, it was an opportunity to socialise and make excellent friends." Gwenllian Daniel.

This was the second year for Gwenllian and I to join the Welsh national pilgrimage to Lourdes and once again, we formed part of the youth section, whose purpose is to provide extra care for the sick pilgrims travelling with us. Most of this work is simply talking to them. Many of them live alone, have lost partners or live in care homes far from their families. They may only see anyone once a day, when their food is brought around or they are put to bed. Chatting to young people is a novelty for them, as is having a change of scene and doing different things everyday, with constantly changing company.

This was the easy, fun part of the work – it wasn’t our only duty! We celebrated mass every morning and had to make sure the sick pilgrims were up, washed, dressed, fed and their beds made in time, before pulling them there in the blue chairs which are a feature of Lourdes. Yet, Lourdes is a very beautiful place, full of people doing similar work and under such circumstances, it is easy to get on with it, even on shifts which start or finish at six am! The opportunity to socialise in the evening and then go to the grotto at night, to pray together and then privately, light a candle for our loved ones and feel God’s presence, is something to look forward to at the end of the day.

I would recommend the experience to anyone. I’m sure that Gwenllian, Rhianwen and Märy, who made the pilgrimage this year, and James and Huw, who made the pigrimage last year, would all agree with me that out lives have been enriched by this amazing opportunity. We are now looking forward to next year and hope that more new pilgrims will be joining us!
